Abstract
Biodiesel was produced from renewable BioSource (waste poultry feedstock). Oil was extracted from waste chicken poultry feedstock collected from slaughter houses of Muscat Area, Sultanate of Oman. Alkaline trans-esterification reaction was conducted using the extracted oil and methanol in the presence of a liquid phase catalyst to produce the biodiesel. Qualitative analysis of extracted oil and produced biodiesel was carried out. The effect of reaction time, reaction temperature, methanol/oil molar ratio, catalyst amount and stirring speed was evaluated. The maximum yield of biodiesel (89%) was obtained at optimum conditions of 6:1 molar ratio of methanol/oil, 90 min reaction time, 5 g of catalyst, 60°C reaction temperature and 400 RPM stirring speed. The quality of produced biodiesel (B100 and B20) was compared with ASTM D6751 standards.
