Abstract
With the increasing use of wind energy conversion systems, it is important to study different aspects of the different technologies employed in these systems. The key of the variable speed technologies is the power converter, thus the properly design and evaluation of its behavior is important. In this work, a thermal modeling of a wind energy conversion system (WECS) using doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) technology is developed, which evaluates the behavior of the junction temperature of the semiconductors devices that compose the power converters of the system. The system is modeled using the PLECS software and results of a 2.5 MW system are presented in different operation conditions to demonstrate the modeling.
