Abstract

This paper examines the historical, philosophical, and theoretical importance of Hegel's concept of constitutionalism by indicating its role in his theory of the modem state. Hegel's view of constitutionalism is distinct from contemporary applications of the term, is crucial to his uttempt to reconcile the diremptions of Modernity, and is used to forge an ethical community in the modern state.
