Abstract

Deveríamos entender a arquitetura como uma mera arte aplicada ou sua atividade compreende a plena expressão das artes liberais? Com base nessa pergunta, August Schmarsow (1856–1936) investiga a essência da criação arquitetônica, colocando no centro do debate a percepção sensorial do sujeito e a conhecida máxima da arquitetura como “figuração do espaço”. A seguir, apresentamos a primeira tradução para o português deste importante texto de 1893, A essência da criação arquitetônica.

期刊介绍： The Journal of the Center for the History of Society and Culture is an annual scientific journal written in Portuguese. Its articles are subjected to a preliminary assessment carried out by an external arbitration committee. This journal was founded in 2001 with the main goal of publicizing the historical studies developed within the scope of the Center for the History of Society and Culture, an R&D unit registered with the Foundation for Science and Technology. The journal’s contents include unpublished historical texts (from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age), a news section on scientific activities and critical reviews of books in the field of History. The journal accepts articles from full researchers and collaborators of the Center for the History of Society and Culture, as well as from any other historians from outside this institution.
