Genrec: A business history of individual entrepreneurial spirit in the construction industry

Abstract

The growth of emerging economies often rely on the entrepreneurial spirit of individuals to take the risk of new businesses and break new ground in enterprise. South Africa experienced similar entrepreneurial braveries in the course of the development of the economy from an agricultural based to a mining and subsequently an industrial economy. In South Africa the construction industry developed slowly on the back of the emerging mining industry and excelled when manufacturing benefited from policies of industrial promotion.
