Unlike DC motors and Induction motors, BLDC motors need a controller as the motors run in 3 phase but take DC input. The controller converts DC power to 3 phase AC power suitable for the motor. This paper describes the design and development of a BLDC motor controller and its performance comparison with the existing BLDC motor controller imported from abroad. Abstract

The rapid growing battery-powered and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles will have a significant impact on power networks due to their zero carbon emission and mass deployment. DC motors, AC induction motors, and Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors are used worldwide in electric vehicles for years.
