Abstract
Electric field distributions around a half-wave dipole antenna, broadband antenna, and various mobile terminals are evaluated and compared in the frequency bands of 800 MHz, 1.5 GHz, 1.7 GHz, and 2 GHz to confirm the difference among radiation sources when conducting EMI tests on medical devices. Comparison results show that the electric field strengths around dipole antennas is almost equal to or higher than those of all mobile terminals used in this study for all the considered frequency bands. Consequently, a half-wave dipole antenna can be used for screening test of EMI with medical devices. With respect to mobile terminals, the maximum difference in the electric field strength among all the terminals is approximately 9 and 5 dB for the 800 MHz and 2 GHz bands, respectively. Regarding broadband antenna used in this study, it can be used for screening test of EMI in the frequency bands of 1.5, 1.7, and 2 GHz.
