Abstract

The commercialization of LOFT solves the major problem of capital source that occurred in the former process of historic building reconstruction. At the same time, the spatial characteristics of LOFT marked by strong senses of nature, authenticity, and romance help us to see the possibility of the potential development concerned with buildings' self-growth and city's organic renewal. This article explores the reasons of why LOFT culture was being created and chronicles its development history. Besides, combined with certain architectural cases, this article analyzes the influences on residential buildings and commercial buildings exerted by LOFT in terms of its spatial patterns, formal styles, and commercial values.
