On the permissible region of motion in the general problem of three bodies

Abstract

In this paper we discuss the range of variation of the orbital inclination and the latitude with respect to the invariable plane and give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the motion to be within the permissible range. We further prove that the range of variation of the inclination attains its maximum (minimum) at the collinear configuration with the maximum (minimum) value of the potential function.
