Abstract

Floors safety is the primary concern globally due to the injuries and fatalities caused by slippery flooring surfaces. Flooring surfaces with wear and tear developments may have poor frictional properties that can negatively affect the slip resistance performance and provide unsafe environments to pedestrians by causing slip, trip, and fall incidents. This study reviews the current technological advancements in the literature associated with two main keywords of floor safety and traction properties to assess and predict flooring slipperiness in terms of coefficient of friction (COF). This study enhances the existing literature by providing recommendations for the future research direction in assessing shoe-floor slip resistance performance using structural analysis tools.
