Abstract

Apart from chavicol, methyl chavicol, camphor and linalool another major compound cineole is typically present in a very high amount in the essential oil of Ocimum americanum growing in different agro climatic region of West Bengal. Conventionally Cineole (1,8 Cineole) is obtained from sufficiently matured Eucalyptus sp. The article deals with the efficiency of the in vitro mass propagation of this species as a strategy of alternative cheaper way of commercial production of the aromatic compounds as a constituent of essential oil.
