Citrus wastes and soil samples were processed for the isolation of bacterial species using Hankin's medium. Morphological and biochemical characterization was carried out from purified cultures that showed clear zones in the Hankin's medium plate. The highest pectinase producing Bacillus sp.2 was selected for comparison of enzyme activity between the free and immobilized cell states. Increased enzyme activity was observed in free cell state as compared to the immobilized cell condition after 48 h and 72 h of incubation. However, pectinase production was higher in immobilized cell condition as compared to the free cell state after 96 h of incubation.
