Abstract
Percutaneous vascular surgery by Prostar, Prostar Plus, and Techstar devices provide immediate secure hemostasis at femoral artery puncture sites. Hemostasis is achieved by tissue approximation with sutures, independent to coagulation status. The PVS procedure is done immediately following cardiac or peripheral procedures in fully anticoagulated status and continuous anticoagulation is allowed if clinically indicated. Bed rest is remarkably shortened and early ambulation is allowed following the procedure. PVS improves not only patient comfort but also decreases the need for nursing care. Since the procedure is different from “interventional procedures,” adequate training for the operator is critical and important.
