Abstract
The finite length of exciting winding in travelling wave transducers causes harmonic waves. In this paper the additional losses resulting from these harmonics are calculated. The equations thus derived do not include the winding harmonics obtained from the conventional electrical machinery. The following result has been ascertained:
With regard to the harmonics the working conditions of MHD-transducers are equal to those of several transducers joined in series, each having an ideal travelling wave field and, according to the ordinal number, each working as motor, generator or dynamic brake.
The principal structure and the operating characteristics are shown in a few diagrams.
