Underlying and Superficial Critical Structure

Abstract

The superficial structure of Maddocks oritique of Shapiro (1979) consists of trivial complaints, misreadings of Shapiro's arguments, and flawed analysis of ethnographic materials. The chief generative element in this structure is Maddock's pose as Defender of the Faith for LBvi-Straussian scholasticism.
