Abstract

The application of nano-sized particles is increasing since it strengthens the Metal Matrix composites (MMC) and maintains the ductility of the matrix alloy. The present investigation deals optimization of sintering parameters of hybrid aluminum matrix reinforced with micro SiC particles, and nano copper oxide (CuO) particles. Experiments have been performed under different conditions of temperature, nano CuO content, and compacting pressure. Powder mixtures were compacted at a pressure ranging from 55 to 65 N/m2. The green compacts were sintered at temperatures between 550 and 600°C. Full factorial design was used to investigate the sintering process parameters. Optimization was carried out using response surface modeling based desirability analysis. Experimental results indicate that multi-response characteristics such as Tensile strength, density and micro hardness can be improved effectively through desirability analysis.
