The research design was non- experimental descriptive design. A total sample of 100 (70 nurses and 30 doctors) was selected by purposive sampling from the specialty areas of Dr RML Hospital. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that in Specialty clinical areas, a very few nurses are possessing specialty education whereas most of the doctors are specialized in their concerned areas. Majority of the participants highly agreed to the need of the nurse specialist in the current health care system, A systematically organized course by a recognized body is necessary for the training and development of competent nurse specialist.
