Abstract
In the rehabilitation phase of the healthcare continuum the impetus and guiding principles for effective interdisciplinary teamwork stem from the profound belief that the successful outcome of such collaborative efforts is directly related to the implementation of a universal humanistic value system within the context of an outcome-oriented, proactive leadership approach. Meeting, and perhaps exceeding, the patient’s and family’s complex health needs is the prime factor in determining the vision, the values and the respective roles and responsibilities of an integrated and co-ordinated team approach. It is our contention that interdisciplinary teamwork is therefore an essential tool for rehabilitation and plays an invaluable part in the art and science of healing.
