Abstract

The finite element modeling of acoustic silencers was presented. The model was developed taking into account factors such as geometry, sound absorbing materials and environmental conditions. The results were excellent for purely reactive acoustic silencers and good for absorptive silencers. A more complicated model for sound absorbing materials and the inclusion of flow was required for more accurate results.
