Inflammatory mammary carcinoma with histological presentation of a well-differentiated mixed malignant tumor - Case report

Abstract

: Mammary tumors are the most common neoplasms in female dogs, presenting high importance in the medical and surgical clinic of companion animals. It occurrence is mainly described in adult to elderly, non-castrated female dogs, occurring in males less frequently. The etiology is closely linked to hormonal influence, especially estrogen and progesterone, and can be prevented through early ovariosalpingohisterectomy (OSH). Inflammatory carcinoma is a form of manifestation of mammary carcinomas, marked by an intense inflammatory reaction and aggressive behavior, with rare incidence. Clinically it is diffuse in plaques distributed along the mammary chain, with presence of hyperemia, hyperthermia, edema and ulceration. The diagnosis of mammary neoplasms, as well as inflammatory carcinoma, should be made by histopathology examination. Surgical treatment, indicated for common breast tumors, is not indicated in these cases. The prognosis for inflammatory carcinomas is extremely unfavorable. The aim of this study is to report a case of inflammatory mammary carcinoma manifested in a mammary carcinoma classified as a well-differentiated mixed malignant tumor, with acute evolution leading to death.
