Abstract
In this study we investigated the relationship between several personality aspects and procrastination in an outplacement situation in which people have to apply for a job. A total of 134 employees from different organizations, who lost their job because of company closure or reorganization, filled out a questionnaire. The analyses showed that procrastination was more likely among those employees with an external locus of control and who had low levels of achievement motivation. After a four-month outplacement period, however, employees high on procrastination were not less successful in finding a job compared to those who procrastinated less. It is possible that other aspects play a role, for instance the demand for specific employers on the labor market.
