Objective : To monitor possible changes in the incidence and severity of erectile dysfunction (ED) in hypertensive patients in relation to the targeted intervention by a nurse aimed at adopting the correct principles of lifestyle of a hypertensive patient. Methods: In a group of randomly enrolled 200 patients aged 40 to 70 years, the questionnaire gathered data on the incidence and severity of erectile dysfunction as well as on the adherence to the correct principles of lifestyle and quality of life. Data collection was repeated after a year, while in half of the patients a nurse performed a periodic targeted intervention during the year. Results: In hypertensive patients with organ complications (previous myocardial infarction, confirmed coronary artery disease, stroke), there was a higher incidence of moderate and severe erectile dysfunction compared to hypertensive patients without organ complications. In the groups without a nurse-intervention, we observed an 18% increase in the number of patients with erectile dysfunction in the group without organ complications and 37% in the group with organ complications, after one year. Conclusion: The results confirmed the assumption of a positive effect of targeted nursing interventions aimed at the adherence to correct lifestyle on the quality of life and within it the manifestations of erectile dysfunction.
