Abstract
GELINEAU SYNDROME: LITERATURE REVIEW AND MANAGEMENT OF A NIGERIAN TEENAGER SUMMARY
Gelineau syndrome is a rare disorder with a hospital prevalence of 0.026% in Nigeria. A 14-year old Nigerian with narcolepsy, cataplexy, visual hypnagogic hallucinations and hypnapompic sleep paralysis is presented here. He had a Multiple Sleep Latency Test done using the Carscadon protocol. With the exclusion of other differential diagnoses, this patient satisfied the DSM IV, Carscadon's Multiple Sleep Latency Test and the Silber Category A criteria for definite narcolepsy. He was controlled on methylphenidate and programmed daily naps.
