Dengue na imprensa local: uma doença em notícia

Abstract

This study tried to comprehend how much the reports of the main journal of Maringa- PR-Brazil are written to mobilize the citizens of Maringa about the need to act against the mosquito Aedes aegypti and contribute to the prevention of the dengue. Nowadays, where online communication processes bring journalists and their public closer together, the journalist must be inserted in a social process acting as a transformation agent in life aspects of his public. To accomplish that, we performed an analysis in the content of a very popular regional newspaper during four months in 2014. We found that there was no content trying to encourage people to mobilize against outbreaks of the mosquito larvae. There were just some notes informing about the numbers of the disease cases. Finally, due to the constant increase of the dengue in the region, there must be more aggressive strategies to mobilize citizens about the prevention of the dengue.
