Abstract

This essay explores the themes of loss and survival by looking at some of her early artworks elaborating on the complex relationship of art-based research discourse with memory. She argues that the field of art practice and art writing is imperative not only for promoting cultural production, but also for offering divergent trajectories exploring the intersection of memory, history and politics in relation to affect. By drawing on her grandmother’s legacy both as a source and an inspiration, she alludes to the role of women in cultural continuity and she places female subjectivity at the centre of her argument.
