Cancún, ciudad emergente: una propuesta de aplicación del modelo “Balance Scorecard” como método para evaluar la sostenibilidad y calidad de vida

Abstract

The concept of an emerging city, coined by the IDB, has allowed this institution to promote the evaluation of sustainability and quality of life through 120 indicators that measure: Climate Change and Environment; Integral Urban Development; and Fiscal and Governance area. The purpose of this article, in its first phase, is to propose the Balance Scorecard as a method to carry out the evaluation of these indicators, plus 32 tourism indicators of the researcher Ledger Brenner. The city of Cancun has a population of almost one million inhabitants, hosts almost 5 million tourists a year, and shows a significant economic and urban growth. This city requires a sustainable growth that can be evaluated so that the actors that interact in its territory: citizens, authorities, tourist economic agents and tourists know it. This research project in its second phase aims to measure the 152 interconnected indicators to calculate an index of sustainability and quality of life that can make its results known in an open access platform on the web.
