“Andrea Chénier” de Umberto Giordano y su reinterpretación de la Revolución francesa

Abstract

Andrea Chenier de Umberto Giordano is inspired by a historical personage, the French poet Andre-Marie Chenier, political activist who died guillotined in 1794. This work tries to analyze how the French Revolution is reinterpreted, context in which it develops to the action of this opera, for various purposes of an aesthetic and commercial nature. Also, its unique affiliation within the verista current and the repercussion of this work in the history of lyrical theater.
