Sources of state vital statistics reports.

Abstract

Since state vital statistics reports are often very difficult to obtain and to locate in the library because of the diversity of titles and entries, an up-to-date checklist of titles, entries, sources, costs, and availability of the vital statistics reports from the fifty states and the District of Columbia has been made. A search of the library literature indicated that such a list was not in existence. Neither the Monthly Checklist of State Publications nor the Public As air s Information Service Bulletin contain complete listings of the state vital statistics reports. It was felt that it would be helpful to have the titles of these documents collected in one list. The United States vital statistics summaries have a time lag of three to five years at the present time. State reports often have more current data and contain information that is not available in the national compilations. State vital statistics can be valuable sources of data for the user.
