Usos de la guerra y organización militar en la Castilla del siglo XIV

Abstract

Traditionally, European historiography has considered the fourteenth century as a time of transition between medieval and modern times as far as war tactics are concerned. However, the analysis of war practices in Castilla-Leon during that period does not present any clearly discernible transformations. Nevertheless, on the organizational level it is possible to detect some phenomena that demonstrate the existence of a long and slow process of centralization and reinforcement of military resources in the hands of the monarchy. These phenomena will be the necessary basis for the changes in military use that will become fully visible at the end of the fifteenth century and at the beginning of the sixteenth.
