[Brazilian contribution to phototherapy].

Abstract

Pediatrics published (44:155, 1969) a Commentary, "Nursery Illumination as a Factor in Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia," by Jerold F. Lucey, and an article (44: 162, 1969) "Effect of Environmental Illumination in Prevention of Hyperbilirubinemia of Prematurity," by F. Giunta and J. Rath. I confess that, at first, I was glad to notice that phototherapy had managed to draw the approval of American investigators because, although this method originated in England, it was in Brazil that it was first used on a large scale.
