Voltear la tierra para despertar la vida: el resurgimiento de los pueblos del valle de Atriz, en el municipio de Pasto (Colombia)

Abstract

This article explores how recent organization processes carried out by communities of Jenoy and Mocondino, in the municipality of Pasto (Colombia), have responded to key events that have jeopardized their existence as collectives. Using a longue duree ethnographic approach, it investigates past key events that have defined the relationships between these communities and the city of Pasto and its inhabitants. This article delves as well into the daily life and festivities of the men and women of Jenoy and Mocondino, in order to show how these communities preserve and constantly update a deeply-rooted communal identity that underlies both ethnic and peasant affiliations.
