Abstract
This article embodies an introduction to the “open access” movement and the main features and tools derived from it. In addition, it raises awareness about the importance of access to research and to scientific knowledge.

Educare Electronic Journal is edited and published by the Center for Research and Teaching in Education (Centro de Investigación y Docencia en Educación) from the Universidad Nacional (National University, Costa Rica).
