Globarruralización: cómo el medio rural se ve afectado por la globalización y las TIC

Abstract

Rural areas suffer a process of dismantling caused by their subordination to urban environments, European agricultural policy and the aggressive logic of international trade. Currently, these spaces are even more endangered by exclusion risks caused by globalization and the spread of the New Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). Through the concept of multifunctionality a lot of initiatives and rural development policies opt for the tourism sector in rural areas. In many cases they leave aside the promotion of traditional agriculture. There are two issues that require efforts to reduce the digital divide between rural and urban areas: the isolated location of tourist accommodation and the features of the Information Society. Therefore, in case strategies for increasing access and use of ICT are not applied and these are used to promote tourism aside the traditional agricultural activity, we will not be helping the rural development.
