Gabriele Manfredi e l'insegnamento della matematica a Bologna nel XVIII secolo

Abstract

Gabriele Manfredi, who published in 1707 a textbook on integral calculus, taught for more than forty years (1720 to 1761) analytic geometry and Leibnizian calculus at the University of Bologna. In this paper we discuss the importance of Manfredi's lectures and we reconstruct, mainly by means of unpublished documents kept at the State Archives of Bologna, his university career and more generally the mathematical courses offered at the Bologna Archiginnasio during the XVIII century.
