Abstract

En este artículo se propone realizar un acercamiento a las performances rituales afrocatólicas en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires de finales del siglo xviii. Recurriendo a multiplicidad de fuentes locales se reconstruye una situación general y ponerla en diálogo con el resto de las Indias, con el objetivo de mostrar similitudes y algunas diferencias con lo que sucedía en el sur de Brasil. El artículo avanza asimismo en el estudio de las naciones africanas, proponiendo que una de sus características más importantes era la elusividad. Esta permitía conservar espacios de negritud donde las performances afrocatólicas eran protagonistas.
