Abstract

According to recent research, diabetes educators are working in more diverse settings, with more diseases, and under ever increasing financial constraints. How do you cope, regroup, and reenergize? Attend AADE's 33rd Annual Meeting and Exhibition, August 9-12, 2006, in Los Angeles. The meeting will have the latest information on these and other developments in the diabetes education profession that you cannot afford to miss. Specifically, the general session speakers will focus on the future of health care and how not to get left behind. Kicking off the meeting will be the opening general session keynote speaker Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the house and founder of the Center for Health Transformation, who will share revolutionary ideas on health care reform. Other noted general session speakers addressing the future of the profession include Edward H. Wagner, MD, MPH, FACP, "Creating Systems to Drive Prevention"; David N. Bornstein, "How to Make Surprising Changes Happen: Social Entrepreneurship Using Local Resources"; Lawrence Wallack, DrPH, "Public Health: America's Second Language"; and concluding with Rachel Naomi Remen, MD, addressing "Service as a Way of Life." Other highlights of the meeting include learning more about the models of chronic care and its future impact on diabetes education. Also, learn how to improve one's effectiveness by working within the community and with primary care providers and community health workers.
