with any collection some are better than others. But I fear that as a collection this book is unlikely to find a wide readership by those concerned with the very important question which it raises. A collection of conference papers rarely has real coherence. The subject purportedly addressed deserves proper monographic treatment. In that light it is astonishing that there is not a single reference to the important and highly relevant volume by John Barton, Ethics in Ancient Israel (Oxford, 2014).
