Abstract
This article examines Henri Lefebvre’s theory of production of space in order to explain its fundaments, and thus contribute to overcome the misunderstandings frequently occurred in the appropriation and interpretation of his work. Schmid analyzes and reconstructs the theory of Lefebvre, identifying the elements that constitute its basic structure as well as the fundaments of its epistemology. For him, it is necessary to consider three crucial aspects hitherto neglected to understand Lefebvre’s theory: (1) his triadic dialectic version, developed on the basis of Hegel, Marx and Nietzsche; (2) his theory of language based on Nietzsche; and (3) the influence of French phenomenology in his thinking.
