Abstract
El trabajo presenta los resultados de un estudio empirico sobre las percepciones que de la lectura y la escritura tienen estudiantes provenientes de sectores vulnerables y con bajo rendimiento escolar en una universidad publica en Mexico. Nuestro objetivo es identificar el impacto que estas representaciones tienen en su desempeno escolar y en los procesos de inclusion educativa propios del nivel superior. Los resultados muestran que las dificultades academicas asociadas a la comprension y comunicacion de saberes, si bien no son un factor exclusivo, si contribuyen de manera dominante al fracaso y la desercion escolar de jovenes en situacion vulnerable
