Abstract

Aerial reconnaissance and photography for archaeological purposes require repetition over an infinite period of time. The recognition of subsurface disturbances is dependent on soil colours or abnormal crop growth, and climatic conditions are an important factor. The evidence from air photographs, taken over an extended period of time, needs to be synthesised in cartographic terms and represents an interim statement which is likely to be amended as further photographic evidence becomes available.
