Abstract
Objective
To confirm factor structure of the Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaires for Children (CEA-N).
Material and methods
A total of 362 children aged 8 to 12 years old from public and private primary schools participated in the present study. The Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaire for Children was used to assess their anticipated effects from drinking alcohol. Model fit of data to two different models was analyzed using the recommended fit indices. Specifically, one model proposes three positive alcohol expectancies’ scales and the other two negative alcohol expectancies’ scales.
Results
Indices’ values supported the proposed positive alcohol expectancy model (CMIN/ DF = 2,593; CFI = 0,918; GFI = 0,921 y RMSEA = 0,066), and for the proposed negative model (CMIN/ DF = 2,305; GFI = 0,936; CFI = 0,955 y RMSEA = 0,060).
Conclusions
The results confirmed the previously found structure of three scales for positive alcohol expectancies and two scales for negative alcohol expectancies. According to that, the CEA-N is a valid and reliable measure to assess alcohol expectancies of Argentinean children.
