Abstract

Chemical reactions between two compounds located in different phases are often inhibited by the interface between the phases. The interface separates the reactants, preventing them from coming together in sufficiently high concentrations for the reaction to proceed. This can occur in liquid-liquid systems when the organic reagent is immiscible with the aqueous solution containing the inorganic reactant.
