Abstract

During the Second Anglo-Dutch War, the port of Cadiz and the surrounding waters were the scene of the struggle between the two navies and numerous prizes were made by the privateers. This conflict coincided in time with the final phase of the Portuguese Restoration War, in which Portugal and its ally England clashed with Spain. The press of the period and the Notarial Records of Cadiz are essentials to know more about these actions. This paper includes a transcript of the announcement and auction of a prize, an unusual type of document.
