Abstract

more theology than social science and lacks analytic rigour and Peterson’s essay prematurely dismisses much prior thinking on her topic. The editors’ overall framing, however, is worthwhile. They ground the volume in the critical theory of religion—a position that “recognizes that the study of religion is not value-free and that religion... is not apolitical” (1–2). It is to their credit that they have collected a fine set of very detailed studies that show some of the multiple ways that the politicality of religions works.

The Journal includes reviews of books which reflect the above themes.
