Abstract

My father danced in the first procession of the Componedores. The comparsa theme imitated the habits of the many Lukumí [ethnic Yorùbá] women who lived in this neighborhood. When the com-parsa passed by their homes, these Lukumí would speak in their language and pour water in the streets to “cool the road” as they passed.
