Abstract

Introduction

Discussion

Conclusion

Introduction

Use of tenofovir during antiretroviral therapy causes risks in patients. The aim of this study was to analyse pharmaceutical interventions formulated during follow-up of people living with HIV treated by tenofovir according to risk criteria.

Material and methods

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted over a period of six months at the Cocody-Abidjan University Hospital (Côte d’Ivoire). It concerned positive HIV outpatients treated with tenofovir and having at least one risk criterion linked on use this drug.

Results

A total 98 risk of criteria were identified in 59 patients, i.e. 1.7 risk criteria per patient. One hundred fifteen pharmaceutical interventions were formulated against pharmacotherapeutic problems detected. All of proposed pharmaceutical interventions (100%) were accepted by prescribers.

Discussion

Biological monitoring must be deeped in as soon as one risk criterion exist outside routine monitoring assessment in positive HIV patients treated by tenofovir.

Conclusion

Involvement of pharmacist by carrying out pharmaceutical interventions improves management of patients on antiretroviral treatment.
