espanolEl presente estudio tiene por objeto examinar la prensa de la ciudad espanola de Gijon durante el periodo de la Guerra Civil, entre julio de 1936 y abril de 1939. El estallido del conflicto provoco la inmediata confiscacion de los tres grandes diarios gijoneses e inicio un proceso de surgimiento de nuevos rotativos, primero republicanos y –tras la caida de la ciudad en manos de los rebeldes en octubre de 1937– posteriormente franquistas. Todas estas publicaciones compartieron una nueva funcion principal, el sostenimiento de la moral en el frente y la retaguardia, lo que determino decisivamente sus contenidos y configuro una prensa constituida por y para la guerra EnglishThe present study analyzes the press of the Spanish city of Gijon during the Spanish Civil War period, between July 1936 and April 1939. The outbreak of the conflict triggered the immediate confiscation of the three major broadsheets of the town and started a process of emergence of new newspapers, first republicans –and after the fall of the city to the rebels in October 1937– then Francoists. All these publications shared a new principal function, sustaining morale on the front and the rear.
