Abstract

Este trabalho pretende discutir a situacao linguistica do portugues em Sao Tome e Principe, situado no Golfo da Guine. Sao Tome e Principe e um pais multilingue, onde linguas crioulas de base portuguesa convivem com variedades locais de portugues, compondo uma ecologia linguistica de grande complexidade e fortemente marcada pelo contato linguistico de linguas tipologicamente diferentes. Apresentaremos as caracteristicas socio-historicas da situacao de contato em Sao Tome e Principe e discutiremos a situacao linguistica atual e o papel do portugues neste contexto.
