Abstract
Refletimos, ainda, sobre a Literatura ser capaz de retratar os conflitos vividos por uma coletividade em determinado espaco e tempo, podendo, assim, servir como meio comparativo Luzia-Homem and Maria Moura: some considerations regarding female characters of two Brazilian novels This paper is focused on the Comparative Literature between the novels Luzia-Homem (1903), by Domingos Olimpio, and Memorial de Maria Moura (1992), by Rachel de Queiroz. The analysis focus on the artifices applied by the novelists in the elaboration of the female characters. These were chose as the object of study because they contrasted with the standard behavior of the late 18th and early 19th century societies; furthermore, these characters did not allow themselves to engage in a romantic relationship. We also reflect on the literature’s capacity to portray the conflicts of a collectivity in a specific space and time, thus allowing the use of this literature as a means of comparison.
