Emerson, Thoreau, Fuller, and Transcendentalism

Abstract

Scholars and teachers of Transcendentalism will find much of value in this year’s publications, including standout monographs about Transcendentalism as a specifically religious movement; a remarkable work of 19th-century Americanist scholarship that features individual chapters on Emerson, Thoreau, and Fuller; and many other books and articles that continue to move Transcendentalist scholarship in exciting direc-tions. This year’s work charts innovative approaches to the religion, philosophy, print culture, and politics of Emerson, Thoreau, Fuller, and their contemporaries and contributes widely to the ongoing relevance of Transcendentalist writing and thought for those within, adjacent to, and outside the academy.
